Workshops

In each of the epiSTEME conferences, pre and post conference workshops are organized to facilitate an interactive, hands-on sessions with review speakers. Participants of the workshops are likely to be school or college teachers, educators, researchers in the field of science education. Interested participants are requested to apply for the workshop. Applications for participation are to be received by Dec 30, 2010

 

Pre-Conference Workshop:

 

LEARNING ENVIRONMENT AND TEACHER INTERPERSONAL BEHAVIOURS
        REKHA KOUL, CURTIN UNIVERSITY, AUSTRALIA
        Jan 4th 2011 (Tuesday),  10 am -- 1 pm, HBCSE


The workshop will focus on student and teacher interpersonal behaviours and its significance to students' academic achievement. A questionnaire on teacher interaction (QTI) that has been used to study teacher interpersonal behaviours will be discussed in the workshop and a CD will be provided to all participants with copies of the QTI instrument, profile drawing programme and few useful research papers describing development and use of QTI.

Post-Conference Workshop:

 

DESIGN AND TECHNOLGY FOR EDUCATION
        DAVID BARLEX, BRUNEL UNIVERSITY, UK
       Jan 10th 2011 (Monday), 11– 5 pm, HBCSE


The participants attending the workshop will have the opportunity to tackle two designing and making assignments. The first task is based on the Nuffield primary solutions unit “How will your roly poly move?” The task is about making a simple push-along toy (a roly poly) that provides amusement in both its appearance and the way it moves. The second task is also based on the Nuffield primary solutions unit “Should your creature be fierce or friendly?” which is to design and make a creature to welcome visitors to, or deter intruders from, the classroom. At the end of the workshop participants will be able to present their work and discuss how such activities might be carried out in their own schools.
